New Shows

A wonderful array of talent lights the stage and streets of Sacramento City.  Old favorites are back, along with some exciting new acts!

See below for some of the upcoming themes.

Even though the crowds have been moderate (the State Fair is on and the weather has been quite warm), we've had record houses at the Eagle and the Victorian Academy is a veritable beehive.  The reviews are sparkling and our guests in Old Sac are, once again, from all over the globe:  Mexico, Poland, Ukraine, China... the list goes on.

Come join us for the parades, stroll the street, shill for the shows and enjoy a Great Lunch!  Give a talk or a performance at the Victorian Academy!

Weekly Themes! This week's theme:
A People at Play ~ Victorian Pastimes

The Academy of Victorian Pastimes will take the lead in this week's theme adding more board games, tug-o-wars, and hoop rolling along with the regular array of period toys, games, and other interactive offerings.  Julie's troop of melodrama will teach basic melodrama skills to the visitors and run a short melodrama with the new actors.  They will also teach the audience to boo, hiss, and cheer at the appropriate times while the troop puts on a full scale melodrama in the Eagle twice a day.

Anyone who wants to take part in the fun should drop by the Academy and get a game going or do a comic recitation.  Or share your special Victorian skills with the public.  We're still looking for someone to lead a sing-a-long or two.

Next Week: Politicians, Patent Medicine Men, and Other Purveyors of Pomposity

Wanted: Well dressed men and women who want to give short (5-10 minute) speeches on period topics.  You can refer to the history hand outs in the greenroom and cobble together your own take on issues of the time!  Ladies, let's hear from both sides of the Suffrage debate!  Rally interest in the Sanitary Commission Picnic! Raise bonds for the raising of the streets!  Condemn the Squatters or champion the Settlers Association!  Make the case to "Let the Erring Sisters depart in peace."

Speeches will be performed at the Academy which will also offer a very pompous tour or two of Prof. H.N. Wells' Fascinating Cabinet of Curiosities.  Check in with Wells or Kathleen at the Academy of Victorian Activities to get more info or to get involved!

See you in Sacramento City!

New Rule: No Smoking on State Property

Ranger Steve asked us to remind Red Barn participants that there is no smoking on State Park property. That includes the areas outside the back gate of the Eagle and the side door of the Eagle.  Smoking must happen on the other side of the bollards - on city property.
